In the past, most operations work couldn't be automated because it was too customized and didn't have built-in connections or APIs. This meant it had to be done by hand or with less-than-perfect RPA (Robotic Process Automation) tools. Now, with generative AI, smart automation using AI agents is possible. A new thesis from a16z suggests that AI will take over operations and replace RPA.
